Thoughts on the Month

I sometimes think the worst months for music are the best months for music. Usually, when there is not a slew of new, mid to high-quality releases, I check out new worlds of music. For this month, it was Q-Pop and Euro-Pop, both with releases that will make a big impact on the end of year lists. Dimash Kudaibergen in particular showed me some of the best vocals ever. This aside, there were some good releases this month, though nothing, in particular, stood out for any country. There even is an instrumental track in the top 5 this month (!).

Two popular girl groups from Korea nagged spots on this list, both are from group's whose previous efforts this year underwhelmed. A J-Pop rookie group known for its consistency took a spot and an obscure Korean rock band took a spot for a nifty Halloween track. The order for the top 5-2 is interchangeable, and any of the honorable mentions are worthy of equal note.

I did not get to review all the songs I wanted to this month, but trust me, this month was a good month for English and Japanese releases quite a bit. Korean music was consistent, though nothing blew me away. My top song this month officially gets released next month, but I counted it as an October single as its October version more than sealed the deal. The month was consistent for albums, and TXT's mini in particular nearly made it as my top album. Also, I really enjoyed my MV of the month.

  1. Very interesting indeed! I may not like SixTones as you do but they put out good releases this year, well to be frank I just do not like Johnnys' singles except for their past singles. Interestingly a well thought out and well set world-list of great songs. I'm quite shocked that BLACKPINK made the cut. I am happy that 1 GMF nominee got into the Top 5. Although you know that you critics collectively decided to let Golden Child win, I actually tackled the win of GolCha if it was deserving or not. Nonetheless, a great viewpoint in today's realm of music.

    1. Ya, 2020 Johnny's can be hit or miss, but 2020 Johnny's was a big hit for me. I am shocked Blackpink made the cut, as the chorus still is middling. I guess the verses just blow me away! I love the Golcha track, it just missed out as I count international releases too.

I knew the picks would divide, but for the moment, I stand by them.

What are your top 5 songs this month? (would love to see you create a blog feature for that FYI)

    3. Solid picks! You will see some of those tracks in my end of year lists. You seem to like euphoric and anthemic track. Those are my things too, no wonder our tastes in music are similar :)

    4. Well yes, that is the main reason why I loved K-Pop. But I also love just a good pop song in general, just like well maybe SNUPER's Platonic Love or VIXX's Shangri-La. Those are also my types of songs, I'm more of an alternative pop/rock person, but I also am a big sucker for Electronic (especially Trance, Hardstyle). I also love Opera but I want it to be as cohesive as it can be, just like I Got A Boy, no one ever beats that when it comes to the perfect cohesion but still very unpredictable nature.

    5. Ooh, those are good genres, especially opera + rock is great for me :)

  2. Hi, it's Ohm!

Oh my god i just saw this lol.

I don't know if you will see this but it's actually such an honour to see myself in the same list as Blackpink and Twice! Thanks so much for listening to my album a year ago LOL.

P.S. I just released another album [literally an hr ago lol] and it reminded me of the time you reviewed my song Waves, which is why i'm here!

Feel free to listen to the album in your own time 😉

    1. Haha, nice to see you here once again Ohm!

Your Gravity was truly a strong album you made. It did not make it into my end-of-year list as it was an instrumental, but I still listen to Transcend and Waves every once and a while, thanks for the fantastic album!

I am so going to listen to the album soon! Thanks for the link! I have loved your recent remixes, and I'd be lying if I am not hyped :)

    1. Just listened to the album, and it honestly outdoes your previous one by far!

It really captures that futuristic style you were seeking, and stands out better as a whole than individual. I'd call it a concept album. In many ways, its what Coldplay's new album wanted to be, an ambitious space epic!

Thanks for sharing it with me :)
