Review: The Midnight Romance - Nightmare

It is Halloween time, and there is an 80s craze, 'Thriller' is going to be even more omnipresent than normally...

The Midnight Romance is one of my favorite groups to debut this year. Let by No Minue, formally of TRAX (a great band to check out if you want to go down a deep tunnel of old Korean rock), the band has frequently used the 80s as a jumping point for their excellent singles. Their debut single 'The Midnight Romance' is a favorite of mine, but I was underwhelmed by the follow-up. Thankfully, 'Nightmare' is pretty great, especially for Halloween.

The instrumental sounds like if 'Take on Me' got a Halloween remix. It is edgy, yet keeping the emotive romance feel of the classic. The 80s element s are not hidden (I have not seen a keytar since 'My prerogative' it feels like). The song battles between 80s novelty and Halloween fun, and eventually reach a great mix in the claustrophobic chorus. Minue's vocals were great with 80s rock, and this song is no exception. This band has become a favorite, and I want to see where they go next.
