 Review: Lee Suhyun - Alien

Akdong Musician is one of South Korea's biggest acts, and they deserve it. Finally, member Suhyun gets her well-deserved debut, written by her brother (and the other half of Akdong), Chanhyuk. Normally, the group's music goes for a folksy route which has resulted in some instant-classics (200%, Dinosaur, the list goes on and on). Yet, for Suhyun's debut, Chanhyuk has written some trendy Dua Lipa 80s pop. And while 'Alien' is not an instant classic, it is still fantastic.

From the fun lyrics to the camp MV,  there is a lot the song has to fulfill (let us not forget fan expectations), and the song's fun and infectious beat accomplish a lot with its sci-fi vibe. The bass is simple and retro and allows Suhyun to devour the track. Suhyun's vocal talent was never in question, in fact, the track would get a 7 or something if it were not for Suhyun.

The chorus could benefit from a stronger hook than "A A, A-A, A-A-A, an Alien", but with everything around it so fun, This blemish is easily forgiven.

  1. I do agree. It is not necessarily my taste, because I love catchy choruses and power vocals. This is fair enough for me. Maybe an 8...
