 Review: King & Prince - &Love

King & Prince have a naming issue. 'Mazy Night' (WTH) and now they somehow outdid themselves (no like really, I sometimes get cringey English because Johnny does what Johnny wants, but no, '&Love', who green-lit this!?).

Earlier this year I was blown away by 'Mazy Night'. It reminded of the dream-pop of India in the 90s such as 'Aate Jaate', 'Papa Kehta Hai' or 'Pehla Nasha', all of which are some of the greatest songs ever, just with 2010s touches. And while it was weaker than the songs it was compared too (and was filled with Johnny cheese), it became a favorite of mine. Needless to say, expectations were high for &Love and I am not sure what to think. It sounds like something straight out of a high-school comedy victory lap, or some musical from a Broadway wannabe play.

That said, this is one hell of a catchy nineties throwback. I have been humming it quite a bit. Unlike Fantastics and Snow Man's new singles, this song's chorus is really catchy. The brass adds to the celebratory vibe too. And the guys do their best to (Charisma-fy?) the song.

Overall, I think this is the best J-Pop single this month so far (despite me disliking it on the first listen). Hopefully the month steps up for J-Pop soon. And despite being ambition-less, this song is a keeper for me.

Rating: 8.25/10

Side note: I kinda am hoping this sort of song comes on the upcoming albums of artists like TXT,  Kim Jae-Joong and other artists who work well with a celebratory style :),

I also could not find a could photo of King & Prince, so this photo of one their distributor's buildings will do :)
