September Multi-Song Review (Road-B, Carly Rae Jepsen, Robin Packalen, Ohm Bhandari)

September Multi-Song Review (Road-B, Carly Rae Jepsen, Robin Packalen, Ohm Bhandari)

Road-B - Icarus

Road-B's Nonstop has maintained a spot on my playlist months after its release, especially with the support of its excellent new live performance. Icarus is their latest single, once again working with Sweetune. The chorus brings some nostalgic second-generation synth textures, powering forward with emotional weight. Unfortunately, the vocal arrangement is surprisingly lax and ineffective, especially for a Sweetune production. Icarus is strong, but I wonder how it would sound with stronger vocal performances.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Talking To Yourself

It is crazy to see Carly Rae Jepsen move from mainstream pop with hits like Call Me Maybe to somewhat more indie-influenced pop. Talking To Yourself is from her upcoming album, and I love the chorus. The chorus really deserves so much praise, I could talk about its synth textures all day. The rest of the song isn't of much note, but I love that chorus melody.

Robin Packalen - Magic

Packalen's 2021 EP, Rest in Beat AM, has become a regular on my playlist, with several of its songs maintaining a spot on my playlist. Magic isn't nearly as good, but the song plays synthwave in a much heavier style. The production is immaculate, I just wish the mixing aloud Robin to provide some stronger hooks. Maejor's cameo also does not do much.

Ohm Bhandari - Odyssey

Ohm Bhandari is back with another EDM track. As always, Odyssey is all about its chorus, spending its verses building up to that fantastic chorus. Yeah, this is another chorus-heavy song in this roundup! I love the gritty bass textures clashing with the higher-in-pitch synths. It creates a really unique feel, antithetical to the mysterious and mystical verses. This is what I love about EDM.

Rating: 8.75/10
