End of Month List: March 2022
I am so sorry for how late this is. In my defense though, this last month-and-a-half was crazy, and things are only moderately better currently. That said, March was an interesting month for music.
It was great for me as a TVXQ fan, with Jaejoong and Junsu finally reuniting for a single that is extremely forgettable, hopefully, they continue to collaborate though. Junsu released a solid solo EP. However, the main attraction was duo TVXQ returning after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus with a strong Japanese EP, even if nothing on it lives up to their best material.
Other than that, this was an average, if slightly forgettable month. Modern great Miyavi released a fantastic single, and a pretty great b-side to go with it. Red Velvet released a solid EP led by a strong single, legendary boy band Kat-Tun released an album that had all of its best tracks as pre-releases.
This leads me to a major concern, too many recent albums have not had any surprises hidden in their midsts. Charli XCX's latest album is strong, but the best material on it was released in 2021. One album that did this in March was Father John Misty's fantastic Chloe and the Next 20th Century, a concept album with some strong tracks hidden in its midst.
My top song of the month may surprise some readers, as it is not my highest-rated song this month, nor the one from my favorite artist. Nonetheless, it is a solid choice, and perhaps one of the year's most impressive songs so far. Its only real challenge is the poetic second place. Father John Misty's Funny Girl and Brave Girls' Thank You barely missed the top five songs.
