Imaginary Album Review: Miyavi - Super Hero
With Super Hero, Miyavi ends the fantastic Imaginary album on a high.
For starters, the song opens with a calm guitar, leaving you expecting something like Are You With Me?. But then, suddenly, a gritty bass guitar emerges, and the track fundamentally alters for the better.
In many ways, Super Hero is a strong finish for the album. Driven by the melodramatic drama that Miyavi thrives on, the song is driven by aggressive and strong electronic rock riffs, always ready to provide a surprise, or two, or three. From old-school autotune, to the guitar ripping through the song, Super Hero tells a story with all the required drama.
And when it is needed, the song slows down, allowing the melody to build. In many ways, Super Hero tells a story.
Around, two minutes, and forty-five seconds in the piece, the song completely pauses, only to come back with the stunning, gritty, and epic chorus. This is Miyavi's My Genesis. Constantly switching, but always with a plan in mind.
Of course, Super Hero has a template to build off of. It is a remake of a track from Miyavi's old album What's My Name?. The original version was slightly underwhelming, with Miyavi sounding a little less sober and gritty than the track needed. Thus, with the new one opting for a much more electronic feel, Miyavi comes together for an emotional performance more than worthy to finish the album on a high.
