Review: Carryminati X Wily Frenzy - Vardaan
Carryminati is a controversial YouTube star from India. And like many, many YouTubers, he has started to release music. Unlike other YouTubes, his music has become massively successful. Often working with his brother (taking the name of Wily Frenzy), he has produced mega-hits with his unique style.
Now, his style is weird. His brother has a straightforward DJ style, often relying on a repeated structure. On the other hand, Carryminati's voice has a sort of messy, untrained feel. This creates a unique feel, that could go either way. However, it proved massively successful with last year's aggressive Yalgaar. Vardaan is a spiritual successor to that song, though the instrumental is more straightforward.
As usual, Carry's messy style is a highlight. He sings about achieving dreams from his point of view. That is perhaps the best point of Carry's style, he sings as himself, not as any stage persona. Still, his vocals lack training, and a stronger melody could be needed. Thankfully, his rap-ish style works well through the verses.
The chorus attempts to be anthemic, though the contrast between the instrumental and the vocals don't help. Still, the song overall is solid.
