Review: Wonho - Crazy

Review: Wonho - Crazy

Wonho stands as one of Korea's most consistent pop stars at the moment. His style of sensual and aggressive dance R&B has been invigorating to see. While his influence on the charts has declined with each and every release, his fandom has grown, and I expect more impact from the former Monsta X member in future releases.

Crazy is not as strong as February's Eye On You but has a sinister groove well worth your time. In particular, the rock influences work great with the groovy energy, sounding like a slightly more positive version of Eye On You. Unfortunately, Crazy never finds a trick as invigorating as the aforementioned track's abrasive synths, even if the vocoder-heavy post-chorus certainly is a highlight.

Wonho may not be a particularly notable vocalist, but his voice works perfectly for his material, and this song is no exception. It is not his fault that the best moments in the song don't involve him, as we see him working at his very best in the pre-chorus.

The chorus could really benefit from an Open Mind treatment, slowly growing into a fantastic chorus (imagine the post-chorus, chorus, and a high-note for the finale), but it works within its boundaries as a decent chorus.

In a way, Crazy feels like a little more than the sum of its parts It never grows into something special, Wonho's vocals are slightly above-average, and the post-chorus is kinda groovy. The end result is a song that, while not perfect, is a whole lot of fun in its totality.
