February Multi-Song Review Pt. 1 (FAKY, Tame Impala, Jamie, Silk Sonic, Sky-Hi)

February Multi-Song Review (FAKY,  Tame Impala, Jamie, Silk Sonic, Sky-Hi)

Another multi-song review because I got busy and went on hiatus. Sorry!

FAKY - Futakoito (Prod. AQU3RA)

FAKY have always been an interesting act to me, but Futakoito is probably my favorite of theirs so far. Part of that might have to do with producer AQU3A's Vocaloid-inspired sound. However, Futakoito benefits from having real voices over the Vocaloid sound. While building slowly, the track never fully explodes, instead grooving subtly. The end result is surprisingly memorable. A final chorus would send this to the next level, but it is great as is.

Tame Impala - The Boat I Row

Few recent songs have taken as full advantage of headphones as Kevin Parker's latest single off his compilation album. The instrumentation utterly overpowers you from all sides, staying subtle yet utterly aggressive. It feels like it is straight from the desert, lost to time. Elsewhere, the song is not as perfect, but the world-building by the atmosphere alone is commendable.

Jamie - Pity Party

By all accounts, Pity Party should not be as good as it is. The English is borderline unrecognizable, and the song borders plagiarizes against Don't Start Now while lacking that track's iconic flourishes. However, Jamie is a charismatic performer and utterly relishes the track's simplicity. The verses largely, but something about the springy guitar in the chorus nearly make things up.

Silk Sonic - Love's Train

My main complaint with Silk Sonic's music is on how it captured the vibe, but not the spirit of the '70s. While this concern still remains, remaking a track by Con Funk Shun certainly brings in this spirit. While the original does remain superior, Love's Train is an interesting look at what Silk Sonic can be. The same detailed production with stronger lyrics and a more relaxing melody work fantastically. Hopefully they take this as their future path.

Sky-Hi - Just Breathe Ft. 3RACHA (Prod. Uta)

The amount of talent in this release was enough to make me anticipate it highly. Sky-Hi is a fantastic rapper with loads of charisma and some vocal skills, 3RACHA are a fantastic production team with Changbin and Han's rap-line adding some edge. Additionally, Uta is a producer with some TVXQ tracks behind his line-up. The raps in the song speedy and intense, but the impact is dulled by the lack of any memorable hooks and additional autotune. The floating chorus also is underwhelming.
