Review: Omega X - Younger

Review: Omega X - Younger

Omega X is made up of members of failing K-Pop groups, many of which have now disbanded. The shame is that many of those groups had solid discographies. Chief among those was Snuper. Star of Stars, Back: Hug, It's Raining, and Platonic Love are four of the greatest K-Pop singles of all time, and deserve much more attention than they ever got.

That said, Omega X's debut single Vamos was almost universally panned, and for good reason. It is basically a generic K-Pop boy group track and does nothing to establish the group as different. It is noisy, loud, and does nothing really, good or bad. Thus, it is mystifying Younger was not chosen to promote. It is melodic and feels appropriate for a group made of members seeking a second chance at fame, and at the same time, is reminiscent of the sound many of the now gone groups that started Omega X's careers used.

Lyrically, Younger is all about nostalgia and using the memories of better times to keep going now. The members self-penned the track, and you can feel their personal experiences influencing this, especially in the teary live performance. Our youth makes our present, and Younger knows this well.

However, all of this is for naught if the song is lacking musically. Thankfully, it is not. The song thrives on its forward momentum, with a stirring pop beat leading the way. To support it, some hollow synths appear in shades throughout the song, leading to added depth. The percussion is also quite generic but packs a strong punch.

As expected for a group made of experienced artists, Omega X's members hit each and every note with just the right amount of pathos, allowing for excellent depth. Throughout the verses, the production and voices rise together, before briefly fading for a few notes, before returning grandly for the chorus. It hits like a truck of memories, even on first listen. The refrain is so well crafted, and the members don't just sing, they emote, and greatly at that.

Younger, overall, is a fantastic track, one that is worth at least one listen. It is not terribly unique but nails its aims so well, thriving on every note, and every beat. It ends with some amazing combined vocal moments, ending the song on a high.

Rating: 9/10

Also, that live performance just tugs some heartstrings.

  1. Failing Kpop group is loaded word, I think they just were not lucky or did not had marketing that showcased their talent. I like underdogs/failures as I am somewhat similar. Song is good, hope they catch on.

    1. That is what I meant by failing. I don't think of failing really as a negative thing. We all fail at times, and it was not the groups' fault they failed. But as you said, I too hope they catch on :)
