July Multi Songs Review (Rat City & Isak Heim, N.O.M, Taeyeon, Soyeon, CIX)

July Multi Songs Review

Rat City, Isak Heim - Rather Be

The Rat City project is somewhat new to me, but their biggest hit was Kind of Love, sung by Isak Heim. Now, Isak Heim returns for the excellent Rather Be, driven by its funky beat. Rather Be is always strong, but turns into an absolute euphoria in its epic chorus, which Isak absolutely devours. From the lyrics about self-motivation, while the music simply snowballs forward. Don't miss this one.

N.O.M - Mega Punch

N.O.M's old songs all fell flat due to their self-serious sensuality. With Mega Punch, N.O.M finally embrace what they are, workout music artists: epic version. From the overly breathy refrains, the awkward raps, and the early 90s beat, Mega Punch is a whole lot of fun. The bridge is a bit awkward, but the rest of the song is pure fun.

Taeyeon - Weekend

Taeyeon's Weekend was initially really disappointing for me. For an artist known for actually being a musical artist, her jumping into a trendy retro city pop sound was just sad. While Weekend will never be my favorite Taeyeon song or even close, I have finally appreciated it for its chill vibe. The chorus is truly relaxing, while Taeyeon breezes along nicely through the melody. Mostly, this song is great for listens between IU's Lilac and city pop classics.

Soyeon - Beam Beam

Soyeon's debut is a whole lot more fun compared to the dark and atmospheric material she is known for.  The result is surprisingly refreshing, with some strong rock riffs. It lacks any real peaks or valleys but trots along nicely. The real benefit here is Soyeon's excellent charisma, giving the song a bit of an edge.

CIX - Tesseract

Before leaving for the military, Hui produced a gazillion songs, all slowly being released. CIX's Tesseract, for the Universe app, is one of them. The title is clearly trying to hype itself off Marvel's movies, and the central refrain is not epic at all. That said, Hui is a great producer, and the rock riffs are excellent, with CIX giving an inspired performance.
