Review: EXILE - Paradox
EXILE are one of the most legendary J-Pop idol groups of all time, starting the whole Exile Tribe, as well as being their namesake. Like all the other groups in their family, EXILE thrive on club energy. And staying true to classic form, Paradox thrives on its dance energy.
When it comes to pure 2021 dance tracks, Paradox is pretty much top of the crop. Its EDM instrumental is reminiscent of the early 2010s, a golden era for club tracks. This makes the track two things, predictable, and invigorating. I expected nearly every twist and turn, and I am so glad about that. The one exception is the opening of the second verse, relying on a bit of trap, not too different from 2020 K-Pop.
The hyper verses find the right balance between old-school fun and modern. Each hook drives you further into the song. The pre-chorus fades just back enough for the chorus hit big, even if I wish the 'Paradox' hook was repeated a little less. The second phase of the chorus could have been repeated more, but that is a minor gripe.
It helps that EXILE have a great set of vocalists, willing to drive every turn the song gives them. I would not have minded a full high note or two in the end, rather than the brief one, but the electronic breakdown is still loads of fun, culminating in an electric guitar, which works perfectly with the clipped hooks.
By this age, most boy bands will be reduced to releasing sentimental fare only meant for their old fans, but some bands have defied this, with EXILE being a leading example, still releasing energizing pieces 20 years into their career.
A review finally I can exactly agree on. Paradox was amazing indeed, I'm glad EXILE is still strong and going props to their amazing sub-units and this mega group itself.
ReplyDeleteTrue, EXILE have become almost kings of EDM.
