Review: Sexy Zone - Let's Music
Over the past year or two, Sexy Zone have been living as absolute bosses of music. Whatever they touch turns out to be great, no matter what genre. This is basically an imperial phase, which arguably peaked last year with singles like Run and Not Found. Once again reduced to 4 due to a member hiatus, Let's Music is their latest single.
Over the last past few months, brass funk has been having a revival, and Let's Music feels like a new add-on to the style. In fact, it is clear the composer did take American mega-hit Uptown Funk as an inspiration. Even the melody feels similar. This allows for the song to employ a free-flowing dance style meant exclusively for having fun.
Holding the production together is strong drum usage and good percussion. In fact, the song thrives best when it sounds like it is ready for a big, fun, and energetic party. This all culminates in the chorus.
The chorus is all about how that free-flowing brass funk finally merges with the members' vocals. Even if the verses feel a bit out-of-sync, the chorus brings everything home. All steps finally merge together, and the dance-beat sounds as strong as ever.
In fact, the song only really falters when it abandons this freewheeling style, such as at the start of the bridge. Some may state that Sexy Zone will continue along this path, and I would not be surprised. It is trendy but fits them well.
