Review: Rosé - On The Ground
From the title of the albums, I assume Rose's new album is the first in a series of 4, like the BigBang Made series. However, the likelihood of it fully materializing is doubtful, as YG have a track record of not following their track record when it comes to artist releases.
I was kind of hoping this song would be driven by acoustic guitar, be fully self-written, and be a mid-tempo similar to Stay. Rose always felt like a would-be singer-songwriter stuck in a world where artist creative input is looked upon as something rare. Thankfully, Rose at least had a small part in the lyrics, which may explain why they sound so personal.
Let us start with the good, the pre-chorus is basically what Rose's solo should sound like. The guitar and Rose's voice work in perfect cohesion. Rose's voice sounds great here as well. The verses have some good energy.
The bad = the chorus. It is an awkward, Teddy-ism drop, which clearly was not in the original idea of the song, but was put in lazily at some point. It does nothing except destroy all momentum of this song so far. Dear Teddy and other YG producers, if you are reading this, PLEASE give us back the chorus's that you all made your name on.
Agreed with everything you said. Seems like our YG reviews are slowly turning into open letter to Teddy lmao. I need him to get a grip but also people eat up anything these days so no wonder they invest zero energy into these releases knowing they will chart anyway.
ReplyDeleteLol, I imagine Teddy going on the web and seeing all these reviews in absolute confusion.
DeleteThat point you made on success is so true. Back in the day, you had to buy the music, so only good releases would succeed. Now with streaming and way too much free time in the pandemic, things will change unfortunately.
I really hope YG improves their songs. I really hope. TEDDY please wake up!
ReplyDeleteSomeone play I Love You by Treasure right next to him. He'll wake up all right...
