Review: Dimash Kudaibergen - Golden

Dimash is perhaps the greatest vocalist active at the moment. Often times, his songs thrive on his voice. Thus, it is somewhat odd that he came back with a production-based track with a cyberpunk sci-fi MV, it was... off.

Golden was initially performed last year, but only released this year. As always, Dimash's voice thrives live (I think they dulled it in the studio version for whatever reason). The pre-chorus is where the song is the strongest, as Dimash's voice does something. It is also where the production is the most central.

I think the chorus has a nice chord progression, which gives it a bit of flare, but it feels weird to give easily the best vocalist in the world a drop chorus.

Another criticism I have for the song is that it lacks a strong climax. In the studio version, he gets a high-note. But to me, it feels the high-note was put there for the sake of it.

Overall a too trendy piece, Golden is one of Dimash's biggest missteps yet. All I hope is that his next song is once again a knockout moment.

  1. Well.. So this is the one track you keep on saying that is not great. Well, I've yet to hear it but from the looks of it. It seems not great. Dimash is an amazingly talented person, he is the most powerful, technically proficient and emotionally gripping performers of the 21st Century.

So if an artistic singers comes sellout, it really sounds bad. I know. But still I hope him the best!

    1. Yeah, this is the one I keep, keep complaining about!

It actually is fine, just... disappointing, especially the studio version. The live version is pretty solid, a 7.75 or 8 even. But the studio version is, meh. Hell, even the high-note does not make sense, like it is there for the sake of it. Also, for whatever reason, I think they dulled Dimash's voice for whatever reason.

Also, the wannabe edgy cyberpunk MV does not fit Dimash one bit. He tries, but it does not work. It also pauses for story moments right at the time where flow is best needed.

Yeah, hopefully he has better music coming up, or gives us the good live performances with his full-blown vocals this song's studio version desperately needs.
