Review: Blind Channel - Dark Side

This song is very different from what I normally listen to, but it is a good example of this style, and thus the review.

This song is running for Eurovision but is likely not to win the Finnish qualifications. I mean, it does not sound at all like Eurovision. But then again, Hard Rock Hallelujah was a thing (ugh), so you never know.

Blind Channel is a Finnish metal band. Now as any Nightwish fan would kindly remind you, Finland has a massive rock history. Despite that, Dark Side is less Nightwish and more Nirvana.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. Smells like teen spirit is one of the best songs of the American music scene from the 90s. In fact, Dark Side sounds like a modern re-imagining or successor of that particular song. It has strong grunge rock roots, with additional metal elements. There are some electronic elements, but nothing destroys the spirit from the song. The only issue here is that the overall melody is pretty repetitive.

I am new to this band, but I believe the lead vocalist is Niko Moilanen. He provides a spirited performance, working great with the lyrics.

Which leads to the song's biggest issue. The lyrics are about darkness and those irredeemable and is pretty provocative. The concept is pretty bad at face value and is pretty wrong, but worse are the suggestions the singer of the song will join the 27 club.

Overall enjoyable, the lyrics and repetitiveness are probably the worst part of the song. But if it for you, it is certainly a great example of this style.
