Mini Song Reviews (Justin Bieber, Ava Max, Perfume, Fromis_9)
Justin Bieber - Holy ft. Chance the Rapper
Probably Bieber's best song in years. While it definitely is far from perfect, the track excellently shows its mid-tempo appeal. From the excellent MV, to the second half of the chorus refrain, the emotion in the song is well displayed. Chance the Rapper's verse starts out promising, but in the end, does not fit with the timeless appeal of the rest of the song. It shows Bieber can be more than a popular punching bag.
Rating: 7.5/10
Ava Max - OMG What's Happening
Boy the chorus is really catchy. I find it really hard to listen to the track without humming the chorus. The verses keep the energy well too. Between the disco vibes to Ava Max's voice, this is a keeper. It is not art, but boy is it fun. There is a weird talking section in the middle of the song, I am not sure does it only come in the lyric video or in the audio too.
Rating: 8.75/10
Perfume - Time Warp
If there is one major issue I have with veteran J-Pop group Perfume's material, it is that the vocals are not mixed well (intentionally) with the production. Time Warp continues this trend by blending cute vocals with some excellent 80s late disco elements. It actually works quite well, but still feels a bit awkward. I actually doubt I will come back to it later.
Rating: 7/10
Fromis_9 - Feel Good (Special Good)
If there is one thing to learn from this mini-review, it is that disco synths are back. After a ridiculously long hiatus, the group is back with a new track. Now this one is definitely weaker than some of their classics like 'Love Bomb'. The cute vocals distract you from the great production at times, but boy the chorus hits hard.
Well fromis_9's Love Bomb was an amazing blast, 9/10. But Feel Good I do agree. It really lacks oomph and something to it. It is just a normal/standard above average K-pop song.
