October Multi-Song Review (Kwon Eunbi, Lee Chanhyuk, Carly Rae Jepsen, ALICE)

October Multi-Song Review (Kwon Eunbi, Lee Chanhyuk, Carly Rae Jepsen, ALICE)

Kwon Eunbi - Underwater

Eunbi may not have been the most successful of the post-IZ*ONE debut, but she deserves all the love she can get. Eunbi is more of a conceptual artist than her peers, and Underwater pulls in some really strong pop influences. Even with frequently utilized samples, Underwater's massive chorus is well worth the wait.

Lee Chanhyuk - Panorama

Chanhyuk's rollout for Panorama and its accompanying album Error has been wonderful. Seriously, from his hilarious YouTube videos to the crazy live shows, it is never a boring day in Chanhyuk land. Lyrically, Panorama is wonderful, describing the dying thoughts of an individual, which works really well with the MV. Tragically, Panorama's music is probably the weakest part of the whole rollout, a standard synthwave mid-tempo. That said, Chanhyuk's skills as a producer elevate the track.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time Ft. Rufus Wainwright

A disco celebration to close out Jepsen's new album, Carly Rae Jepsen sings this joyous tune on reunion alongside Rufus Wainwright. The Loneliest Time is so cheery that I expect it to rise in the charts around Christmas time. Unfortunately, the melody lacks the punch that characterized Jepsen's best recent work.

ALICE - Dance On

ALICE is the re-debut of ELRIS under 10K Entertainment, and it is a typical 2nd generation girl group dance track. Dance On works better in theory than in reality, likely due to the melody doing the heavy lifting. A brass-heavy instrumentation and a stronger beat would send this song into the stratosphere, but the song in its current state is a fine if unremarkable, dance-pop song.

Rating: 7.5/10

  1. Still cannot log in sigh. Anyway, I'm still surprised I'm in the minority when it comes to Panorama because I'm obsessed with it and the album. Don't know what he did but he hit the spot for me LOL!

Agreed about The Loneliest Time 100%.

    1. Well, Panorma and its album have certainly grown on me a bit over my hiatus (sorry for that). Chanhyuk is such a genius producer!
