Golden Era Bollywood Review: Kishore Kumar - Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass (Every Moment Close to the Heart)

Kishore Kumar might be one of the most eccentric personalities in music as a whole. The wacky singer brought life to several songs during his prime, while also being acclaimed as a great actor. In the middle of the golden age, his career stagnated, but he came back at the tail-end of the 1960s and thrived till his death in the 1980s. He might be one of the most legendary singers in history.

His calling card is often his wacky expression and yodeling. Despite this, he has also thrived with emotion. Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass is one of the most mellow tracks he ever recorded. Despite this, there are glimmers of hope and happiness in his emotional delivery. This is a facet of Kishore Kumar I wished more people would see. Sure, he had a boat-load of wacky tricks to make a song fun, but he could bring one to tears arguably better than almost all the other singers of his time.

Kalyanji-Anandji's arrangement helps as well, relying on cascading and dreamy strings, as well as a tabla-driven mid-tempo beat. This is early 70's Bollywood showing a peak and a great one at that.
