 Review: IZ*ONE - Panorama

IZ*ONE has somehow made it to the end of their contract, especially after last year's rigging controversy. I never became a fan, mostly because their vocals are not used properly, and they are often singing too high. After Twice went refined, IZ*ONE is trying to add the Twice refinement to their songs (but to be fair, they already quite refined before Twice for their Korean material).

The chorus is the song's best moment, so let us start with it. The vocals finally are used properly, without sounding obnoxious. Meanwhile, the instrumental is propulsive and forward-thinking. The chorus is from a 9+ song, especially the instrumental post-chorus.

The verses (minus the ending of the verses) are middling. They basically are there simply so that you do not sleep while waiting for the chorus. The pre-chorus is fine, but the vocals throughout the verses are middling. Also, the second verses did not need that tempo drop. The good thing is that there are strings (probably synth-strings actually) sprinkled throughout. I mean, the instrumentation of this track is solid.

After the by-the-numbers pre-chorus, we get the chorus. There is a high-note in the ending chorus, which shows the girls have vocal potential, it just is rarely used.

If 'Panorama' becomes the girls' swan song (it won't, they probably will have an obligatory ballad right before disbanding, with footage from their concerts), then it is perhaps their best song and a solid end to a short career.

Rating: 8.25/10

  1. Well as I've said Panorama is good. But it is not up there for me. It actually works still, and a great ending. Please no ballads fcking CJ E&M. I'm tired of that! Well good luck to the girls and their final song is such a powerhouse.

Segway to my awards, you might be shocked but as I'm using instant runoff voting similar to the Academy Awards, we *might have a daesang sweep* this year (2018 was the last when BTS won Artist, Album, Record and Song). I've already finished counting but I'm waiting for others to vote, all in all, 27 music experts were invited (that means as of this moment 14 votes to win). A very good number indeed. Interestingly, ENHYPEN is pretty solid on the voters.

    1. Ya, if they go out with this song, it is a good swan song.

Ooh, a Daesang sweep sounds interesting, will check out the awards when they come out :)
